Bommer Canyon: Irvine’s Untamed Treasure
Imagine stepping into a quiet canyon where rustling trees replace freeway noise and ancient trails whisper stories of Orange County’s past. Welcome to Bommer Canyon, a 4,000-acre nature preserve nestled in the hills of Irvine, where wilderness and history meet in perfect harmony. Next POI.
Preserving a Piece of California’s Ranching Past
Once part of the vast Irvine Ranch, Bommer Canyon served as a cattle camp during the area’s early ranching days. Cowboys once roamed here, tending herds and living off the land. Today, the cattle are gone, but the rustic charm remains.
Bommer Canyon is now a protected preserve, recognized as part of the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks—one of the first sites in California named a National Natural Landmark. Visiting feels like flipping a switch from “busy” to “breathe,” offering a rare glimpse of untouched Southern California.
